Richard “Rick” Hunt (Ph.D., University of Colorado) is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship [with tenure] at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business, where he also serves as Research Director at the Apex Center for Entrepreneurs, and Director of Doctoral Studies in Management. Additionally, Rick is an Associate Editor at Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and serves on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Venturing, and Journal of Business Venturing Insights.
Rick’s research examines entrepreneurial environments, advantageous knowledge, new sector formation, market entry, and early-stage operational behavior. His work has been published in leading scholarly journals, including: JBV, ETP, SEJ, AMR, Annals, Org Sci, AMP, JMS, and JSBM. Rick’s active interest in contributing to the development of scholarship on external enablement has focused on deeper theorization of the framework’s core, mechanism-related constructs, involving opacity, generic intensity, and agency intensity. He has published multiple articles employing the framework and has supervised several dissertations that develop an EE perspective.
